In 1902, Charles Burroughs the foremost expert in the Victorian era of cryptozoology - disappeared whilst exploring the congo. Famed for regulary capturing unknown species in the wild before the advent of portable photography, the whereabouts of his extensive collection of Lost Impossimal location paintings remained a mystery.

Many people had searched for Charles and his missing paintings, but it was when a youg scholar uncovered a battered and forgotton old crate at the National Museum of Antiquities that the mystery began to unravel. The crate contained the lost paintings and Charles' and his extensive notes which revealed the extrodinary life of the great explorer, of which we see today.

NEW SUMMER 2011 COLLECTION

Castle Galleries Newcastle celebrates summer this week, with the launch a brand new collection of art from some of your favourite artists.

Our new summer collection officially launches in the gallery this Saturday 28th May; but we have such a fantastic selection of limited edition artwork available, that we couldn’t wait to share it with you in our very first online-only edition of Fine Art Collector.

Following the huge success of his ‘Working Man’ museum exhibition, Alexander Millar presents two limited edition pieces taken directly from the sell-out exhibition along with a third brand new classic Gadgie painting. ‘The Angel’ is sure to be a huge hit, paying homage to our very own Angel of the North and giving a nod to Alex’s window cleaning past!

Sarah Graham brings us ‘We’re Off To See The Wizard’ her tribute to the iconic family favourite, The Wizard Of Oz.

Peter Smith and Caroline Shotton charm and delight us with collections featuring Caroline’s lovable cows and Peter’s infamous ‘Impossimals’.

Paul Kenton romances us with scenes of Paris; perfect escapism this summer, and finally Mark Grieves brings us three new pieces in his inimitable style.

We are taking pre orders against all of these pieces NOW so order now to avoid disappointment. For further details of all of these pieces please do not hesitate to contact us here at the gallery.
You can call us on 0191 2332200 or email us at newcastle@castlegalleries.com

We look forward to hearing from you soon!

Elephant Parade London 2010

The UK’s biggest ever outdoor art exhibition – The Elephant Parade - is currently in full swing in and around London with 258 brightly coloured life sized baby elephants adorning the streets of our capital city in aid of raising money to save the Asian Elephant from extinction in the wild.

Six of these wonderful elephants have been painted by our very own talented artists – Peter Smith, Louise Dear, Paul Kenton, John D Wilson, Alexander Millar & Jeff Rowland.

These elephants will be in 2 different locations from now until 3rd July 2010 for the public to see and enjoy so if you’re in London over the coming weeks why not go and say hello. You can also bid for any of these elephants and make them a permanent feature in your garden or house whilst helping a worthwhile cause.
To view all of our baby elephants or for further information on where to see them in person; or simply to see just how talented our artists are.  CLICK HERE

Alternatively work by these wonderful artists on canvas, rather than elephants, is available to view and buy from the gallery now.

The photo's of Jeff Rowland and his Elephant 'Lover' where taken here in our gallery in Newcastle.

Peter Smith Artist Appearance 14th March

Castle Galleries, Newcastle were delighted to host an exhibition of work by Peter Smith.

We welcomed Peter and his wife Jayne on the day with a beautiful collection of limited edition and original work. Peter brought with him a sneak preview of his new sculpture 'My First Love' which is available now to pre-order from the gallery.

The day was success with many new collectors turning out to meet Peter and hear about the inspiration for his impossimals.

We would like to thank Peter & Jayne for staying with us longer than expected on the day and we know that all of our collectors enjoyed the opportunity to meet this intreguing artist and were over the moon to leave with their chosen pieces so beautifully personally dedicated.
