Introducing...Chris Acheson

Meet exciting new artist Chris Acheson.

Taking inspiration from Andy Warhol and popular street culture, Chris Acheson's work is vivid and humorous. A chance photograph of mannequins in a shop window inspired Chris' latest works.

The themes of Chris' work are varied but popular street culture, cinema and music are key. As are the album covers and film posters from his youth. Chris feels that his work could easily be recognised as his take on Roxy Music album covers and Hammer Horror film posters.

The detail and narrative possibilities in the work of Millais, Waterhouse and Hughes, together with artists local to Chris such as Vallette and Lowry, have also influenced his style.

The stagnant, staged interior world of the shop dummy is transformed by reflected random exterior image of a bustling street into an abstract and possibly humorous image. I like the way the two worlds collided.

Meet The Artist - Neil Dawson

Contemporary cityscape artist Neil Dawson will be joining us Live in the gallery this Saturday! Neil will be dedicating and talking about his brand new collection of signed limited edition and original art. Come along and do a bit of Christmas shopping and share a glass of mulled wine with us.

Neil’s captivating cityscapes celebrate the beauty of the capital and its stunning architecture. Through his clever portrayal of light and reflections, Neil masterfully re-creates the electric atmosphere that is distinct to London. A selection of Neil's work from around the world will also be featured in the exhibition, with some artwork created especially for us here in Newcastle.

' I have always loved cities and find myself constantly drawn to their colour, vibrancy and energy - they are both infectious and consuming. They are full of intricate details and boldness, of light and dark and, most importantly, are constantly evolving.'
Neil Dawson.
